The set up consists of glass column, packing material, air rotameter and piping. Metered quantity of airflow is passed through the packed bed vertically upwards. The flow rate can be independently varied to simulate different conditions using rotameter. Naphthalene balls of known weight and diameter are used to form the packed bed for the calculation of mass transfer co-efficient of vaporization in air.

The set-up is designed to demonstrate and stimulate the phenomena of crystallization. Swenson Walker crystallizer is a continuous type crystallizer. This operation involves both heat and mass transfer. Crystallization is the formation of solid particles within a homogeneous phase. Its wide use has a two-fold basis; a crystal formed from an impure solution is itself pure.
The setup consists of a top open jacketed round bottom trough. A ribbon mixer is provided in crystallizer trough, which rotates at low rpm for agitation of saturated solution. The saturated solution is prepared in a tank fitted with heater and a stirrer. This hot saturated solution is fed at one end of the crystallizer and flows slowly towards the other end while being cooled and is allowed to flow back in hot feed tank making the process continuous. The crystals sediments at the bottom of the trough, and can be washed out at the end of process. Arrangement for Cooling water circulation and flow measurement in jacket is made by using storage type water tank, a pump and a rota meter. Necessary instrumentation is done for temp measurement.

The setup is designed and fabricated to study lagging phenomenon in case of pipes. It consists of three concentric pipes of small thickness as compared to diameter and are arranged concentrically, and closed with the help of two discs. Two different insulating materials fill the annuli between the cylinders compactly. Temperature Sensors are fitted to measure the temperature of pipe walls for radial outward heat flow measurement. DESCRIPTION :

The set up consists of a glass column. Water is fed at the top of the column along the walls to make the column a wetted wall column. Hot air from heating chamber with known humidity is allowed to pass through the column vertically upward and evaporation in the liquid film around the wall takes place. The flow rates of water and air can be independently varied to simulate different conditions. Instrumentation is provided to measure the dry and wet bulb temperatures at air inlet and outlet.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION of Fluid Machines Lab Equipment

The apparatus is a self contained unit for studying basic hydrology. It consists of a large stainless steel rectangular tank with adjustable tilting mechanism. The tank is filled with a granular medium. Two separate sets of four spray nozzles above the tank simulate rain fall on the catchments. The tank upper walls are transparent. Valve control of the nozzles varies the lag time on the hydrograph to simulate a moving storm. The compartments at each end of the tank are connected to the catchment area by wire mesh to allow flow between the compartment and the catchment. Two wells with valve control are also provided at the middle of the tank. Twenty pressure tappings along the orthogonal axes of the tank to measure water table profile by a manometer bank.
